Governor Threatens Minnesota's Future With Slashes to Bus and Rail System
The Possible Future of the Union Depot
Earlier this year, five metro-area counties voted to raise over $100 million per year in dedicated funding to expand our transit system. Governor Pawlenty attacked this victory with a proposal to slash almost 40 percent of the general fund allocation to the bus system, a cut nearly 10 times greater than cuts to other general fund allocations. In March, the Governor vetoed nearly $82 million in funding for the Central Corridor light rail transit line and nearly every rail or bus line outlined in the Metropolitan Council’s regional transit plan. We need you to take action!

How do the Governor's attacks on bus and rail service impact you? Do you use transit? Are you looking for better options? Share your story with us, and we'll share it with other members of our action network. If you use (or are looking for) transit along the Central Corridor, you can also share your story with Minnesota Public Radio, which is collecting stories about people who live, work, or play along the proposed route.

Metro Transit Gets You All the Way There
Metro Transit deserves an ovation for including walking directions in its website's trip planning tool. Walking is a major component of getting around, especially when using transit, so the new walking directions are much appreciated. The walking directions are accompanied by a walking directions map so travelers don't get confused by which way is northeast. You can use the Metro Transit trip finder here. We also encourage you to sign up for the Commuter Challenge, where you can win fabulous prizes just by pledging to take the bus or train, carpool, vanpool, telework, bike or walk.
